Comfort food is not always hard to make. This spam fried rice is made of simple ingredients and only takes about 5 minutes, and it is super delicious. What to give it a try? All you need is rice, spam, egg, cucumber and some onion. Simple delicious meal will be ready in 5 minutes just like that.

Fried rice is a popular quick meal among Asia. It is easy to make, delicious, and can be creative. You can add egg in it or on top, seafood, all sort of meat, or even cheese. Based on the ingredients combinations, you get your ultimate flavours.

What Does Spam Fried Rice Taste Like?

This spam fried rice recipe is my favourite comfort food. The eggs are fluffy, the cucumbers brings the freshness and crunchy, and the spam adds the salty meat flavour. It is a perfect combination.

Prep Time: 2 Min
Cooking Time: 3 Min
Total Time: 5 Min
Serving: 2

Ingredients:

Cooked Rice: 3 cup
Spam: 1 can (or Luncheon Meat)
Egg: 2
Mini Cucumber: 3
Green Onion: 1/3 cup chopped
Soy Sauce: 2 tsp
Seasoning: 1 pinch (optional)
Salt: 1/2 tsp
Cooking oil: 3 tbsp
Sesame oil: 1 tsp (optional)

Instruction:

  1. Dice cucumber and spam into 1/3 inch cubes.
  2. Then, chop onion into small pieces.
  3. Beat the eggs in a small bowl with pinch salt.
  4. Heat a frying pan on medium high heat, and add 2 tbsp cooking oil.
  5. Once he oil is heated, add the eggs in, and scramble it. When the eggs are just cooked and fluffy, take them out of the pan immediately. Place it back in the bowl.
  6. Add 1 tbsp oil in the pan, then add 2/3 of the green onion. The reset will be for garnishing at the end.
  7. Fry the green onion about 20-30 seconds until the onion aroma comes out.
  8. Then add spams, cucumbers, and rice in the pan, and fry for 1-2 mins.
  9. Add 2 tbsp water to keep the rice moist. Then add 2 tsp soy sauce, 1 pinch seasoning (optional), 1/2 tsp salt, mix well for about 1 mins.
  10. Add the egg back into the pan, and 1 tbs sesame oil (optional), mix well, and then place it in the plates. Top with the rest chopped green onion, ready to serve.

Tips for Making Spam Fried Rice:

  • When scramble the egg, pour the egg mixture into the pan once it is heated. Scramble for a few seconds, and it will make the eggs stay soft and fluffy. Over cook it will make the eggs chewy.
  • Soy sauce is optional. To replace soy sauce, use 1/2 tsp salt to adjust the taste.
  • SPAM is tasty, and Luncheon Meat is also a good option. I personally prefer Luncheon Meat, it go with Asian cousine better.
  •  Sesame oil is optional. Or it can be used as cooking oil at the beginning as well.
